June 2001

Dear friends,

The push for boats going north is just about over. Now it's time for us to get ready for the summer season. I just finished putting new teak seats, rub-rails and finished doing the engine work on my boat.
The winds will soon calm down, the water will warm up and before you know it, it will be time to swim, dive, sail or motor and go island-hopping or maybe just for a local cruise.

This is the time we take care of our local boating community. We are the distributor for stainless steel Ocean Breeze A/C units. This factory has not raised their prices for 4 years, but that's about to change. So if you need to replace or upgrade this is a good time to do it.

We are also the dealers for Imtra side-power bow thrusters. A great product made in Norway. Side power bow thrusters are great for any boat between 20 feet to 80 feet. From sail to powerboats, from offshore racers to trawlers. These are well-engineered products at a reasonable price. Moores Marine has installed many bow thrusters into wooden boats. We've gone to great lengths working with an engineer, a retired Coast Guard inspector and the manufacturer to come up with the best way to install a bow thruster into a wooden boat. It meets all insurance specifications and "T" regulations for inspected vessels.

If you ever wondered about having one installed, it's not as hard as it sounds. We just recently docked one of our projects, a 68-foot Trumpy, the Blue Moon, in what I would call an impossible place. Even though she has twin engines, it was a very tight squeeze. But with the new bow thruster we installed it was like docking a dinghy!

A couple of years back, the owner of a 65-foot, houseboat style Trumpy named Glory asked me to give him a price for installing a bow thruster. The Captain smirked at the idea of a bow thruster. She was being prepared for a 7,000-mile journey to cruise the Canadian Islands.

Upon their return to Florida, I met with the Captain. He pulled me aside and said to me " You have no idea how many times that bow thruster saved my butt." Then he proceeded to tell me about the horrific currents in the Ohio River, the Tom Bigbee Canal, the Cumberland River and the Hudson River.

Woodwork, that's what we are really all about. Planking, ribs, floor timbers. From interiors to teak decks, it's what we do. When you get the chance, check out our web site www.woodenboatrepair.com. If you're looking to get some projects done or just need a quote, give us a call or stop by our shop.

See you soon,

Jim
P.S. We do all types of repairs, big or small.
